Bonded Ceremony ("Bonded", "we", "us") operates the website at bondedceremony.com and the bond registry known as A permanent registry of human commitment. We are based in Auckland, New Zealand. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how we look after it.

1. What we collect

When you register a bond, place an order, or contact us, we may collect:

Names of the two people in the bond (as you choose to record them).
Email address and, if you provide it, phone number.
Shipping address for rings or certificates.
Bond declaration text, dates, and any photographs you upload.
Payment details, processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers on our servers.
Basic technical information, IP address, browser type, pages visited, collected through standard server logs and cookies.

2. Why we collect it

To create and maintain your entry in A permanent registry of human commitment.
To produce and deliver your certificate and rings.
To send you transactional emails (confirmation, shipping, account).
To respond to your enquiries.
To comply with our legal and tax obligations.
To improve and secure the site.

3. The public Register of Bonds

By default, a bond entry is permanently archived in A permanent registry of human commitment. You choose at registration whether your bond appears in the public Register of Bonds or is held privately. Public entries display the names and Bond № you provide, never your email, address, or payment details. You can change the public/private status at any time from your account or by contacting us.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. We share limited information with:

Stripe, to process payments.
Google Workspace, to send and receive email.
Our backend and hosting providers, to run the site and store the registry securely.
Shipping carriers, to deliver rings and certificates.
Authorities, only where required by New Zealand law.

5. How long we keep it

The registry is a permanent archive, that is the point of it. Once a bond is registered, the record, certificate, and declaration are kept indefinitely and cannot be removed. Account contact details are kept while your account is active. Order and tax records are kept for at least seven years as required by New Zealand law.

You can ask us to delete your personal contact details and close your account at any time. You can also switch your bond from public to private, which removes it from the public Register of Bonds, but the underlying bond record remains in the registry archive.

6. Your rights

You can ask us to:

See the personal information we hold about you.
Correct anything that is wrong.
Switch your bond between public and private on the Register of Bonds.
Delete your account and contact details.
Stop sending you marketing email (every marketing email also has an unsubscribe link).

7. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies, to keep you signed in, to remember your cart, and to understand basic site usage. You can clear cookies in your browser at any time; some features (such as staying signed in) will stop working without them.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and stored with reputable cloud providers. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse, and unauthorised access.

9. Children

Bonded is for adults. You must be at least 18 to register a bond or create an account.

10. International transfers

Our providers (payments, email, hosting) may store data outside New Zealand. We only use providers that apply reasonable safeguards to protect your information.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top will change. Material changes will be highlighted on the site or emailed to account holders.
